I repaired my old HD some days ago and found my old collection of hardcore records. I haven´t thought about Raised Fist for a long time and now this record is running 24/7. Maybe not so fast and dirty like their early pieces, but way better than their last works.
I can´t say so much about F-Minus, just stumbled through it and thought it would be worth to share. Released on Hellcat Rec. it´s a nice punk/hardcore record. They didn´t invent the genre new, but who did?
If you´re following me for a longer time, you may know that there was an Ensign record I already had here on the blog. So now it´s time for their final work. You may think this is a little bit commercial, just publish a last record, where you cover all your youth influence, maybe you´re right but nevertheless a fuckin great hardcore piece. You will find cover songs from Bad Religion, Descendents, Dag Nasty, Dwarves and so on and so on.
A few weeks ago I saw this very very very great movie. First I thought, this would be another „Romper Stomper“, „Hooligans“, „Oi! Warning“ flick. But after a while, I mentioned that the movie is a sensual coming of age film. Combined with a great soundtrack (ok forget about the 80´s songs on it). If you are deeper into early reggae and the early skinhead scene in england, this will be nothing new to you, but for everybody else, give it a try. And you definitely have to watch this movie! Forget about all those other skinhead movies, I´ve seen them all and this is way the best.
Ok, because today is derby time, I have not so much time, but let´s look how far we can get. First we start with some hiphop. Hmm, maybe you will describe this as „student hiphop“, funny and good lyrics, combined with a fast MC. So, give it a try if you don´t know Paul Barman. And also watch out for his debut „It´s very stimulating“ (Get it right from here).
I heard one song of the record on a pretty good internet radio station (Listen here!). This is not just a simple soul or funk album, it´s made by the US Army during the Vietnam War. They made like a band contest and the best army musicians made this record. You really need to listen to this

I have this one for a long time, but never really listened to it. You may know the Meat Puppets best for their perfomance together with Nirvana on the legendary MTV Unplugged concert. But they are much older then this. The band came up in 1980, founded by the two Kirkwood brothers. Till today you can hear their influence to alternative music. If you only know them from the Nirvana unplugged session, you must try this.
I was pretty lazy the last months, so today I decided to get active again. We will start with some hiphop, cause of the more harder records I brought up in the last posts. I can´t say very much about DJ Format, I heard one song on lastfm and was amazed. So give it a try.
Ok, last update for today, even if I´m not in the mood to write anything about music in the moment. Have to read crappy shit from Fichte and Schelling (who are as big idiots as the editor in chief of the „intro). By the way, the former singer of the german band „Blumfeld“ made some new songs. Some people should have died young, like Hendrix or Lennon or even Cobain. Do you want to imagine what silly bullshit they would make today? No? Me neither, but some of musician who had their best days, try and try again. Just to end as pop cultural clowns like Jochen Distelsomewhat. Anyway, this is The Locust a „mathcore“ (again a strange genre) band. Hard to descripe, if you like weird music, you will like this.
On the german wikipedia site, Fugazi is descriped as „art-punk“. What the hell should that mean? I don´t know and I don´t care, but it made me thought about genres. Who the hell inveted all those genres like „art-punk“, „sludge-metal“, „stoner-grudge-penis-pussy-metal“ a.s.o.? Somebody in here who knows it? I think it´s just about music journalists who need know and then new genre tags to fullfill their boring life. Ever seen the boss of the famous „Intro“ magazine? A totally dick, if you see him you can´t believe, that the „Intro“ has such a big influence on the german music scene. Moustaches should be forbidden. Only Freddy Mercury was allowed to wear one, maybe also Tom Selleck. But no „indie“ looking fashion victim should wear one, not cool. Definetly. Ah, back to Fugazi, a band without any merchandise and with Ian McKaye as singer. Enjoy.
