Refused – This Just Might Be The Truth

Comin back to the guitar. I think I don´t have to say anything about those legends of modern hardcore music. The 1992 founded Refused from Sweden. Nowadays Dennis Lyxzen plays at the famous The (International) Noise Conspiracy, which last two records really suck. So back to Refused, if you have never listen to them, then you must have this record. Don´t want to say anything more about their first full length recorded, released on Startrack Records.

Atmosphere – Strictly Leakage

After having some guitar records, we now come back to some more beats.  We come to, Atmosphere. Founded in Minnesota 1994 they are till today one of the most succesfull “independent” rap acts. I don´t have much to say about them, the music speaks for itself. If you want to get a taste of Atmosphere, try this 2007 released EP.

Down By Law – Fly The Flag

Former Dag Nasty frontman Dave Smalley founded this punkrock group in the early 1990´s. After releasing 5 full-length records on punkrock major Epitaph, they decided to go back to a indie label and released “Fly The Flag” on Go Kart records in 1999. They also released two more records on Union Label Group. There are several rumours, that they are going to record another full-length album this year. You can download one previous released song from their homepage here. Nothing else to say, solid played punkrock with sometimes a little irish touch. Enjoy

Strife – One Truth

After taking a break from writing on the blog, I´m back and brought you the on of the three first outputs of Victory Records (which have indeed the most shitty logo in the whole hardcore biz b.t.w.). Next to Earth Crisis and the great Snapcase, they re-pressed the 1994 record of the californian band Strife. Heavy down-tempo guitars, sing-alongs and (what else) straight edge lyrics are found in this great record. It´s a pitty that I was 10 by the time this record was released, cause this is one of the most influencial records of the at this time new new-school direction. Far away from nowadays macho bullshit and tough-guy metal guitars, this piece must be in your record collection. So have fun and stay clean

Evergreen Terrace – Losing All Hope Is Freedom

Back on the map. University stressed me, so I didn´t have the time to give you what you want. Now, everything is done properly, the sun is shining, good to update again. Ever heard of Evergreen Terrace? The Simpsons fans of you will know the name, because this is the street where our loved family lives (and so stupid Flanders ). It´s also the name of a Metalcore band from Florida. And so I will give you their studio debut from 2001. In my eyes, you can even as a oldschool hardcore boy listen to them, it´s not that “tough guy”, spike-hair metal shit. But what I like most are their qoutations of movies and tv series. But find out by yourself who is qouted by Evergreen Terrace. Enjoy! Ah friends, I´m tired of posting the tracklist every time. Hellsongs – Hymns In The Key Of 666

2004 in Sweden founded, this trio of musician covers metal songs in a way of chilly lounge music. You like Richard Cheese, you will love this. It´s their full-length debut from 2008, after touring through europe, performing at radio and tv shows, it was time to put out the first longplayer. They entered the swedish charts in the top 10, until then they´re touring through europe, with a big support of the metal scene. So if you ever wanted to hear AC/DC´s “Thunderstruck” sung by a jazzy female voice, grab this one.

Trio Of Doom – Trio Of Doom

This is the only release of the power-fusion trio “Trio Of Doom”. The first and only live set was 1979 on the “Havan Jam” in the capitol of cuba. After the live set they were asked by the CBS to record their set and so 1979 back in the US they recorded it in the famous CBS studios in New York. I´m not so deep into fusion-funk, so you have to explore it for yourself. In my eyes a great record.

Witch – Paralyzed

This is the second longplayer of the american band “Witch” (with J Masci from Dinosaur Jr. on the drums). A fast and heavy record, but not to classic. If you like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, you will like this too, but don´t think you will hear a Dinosaur Jr. record, just because of J Masci in the band. It ´s a unique thing, elements of doom, punk, stoner, sludge will be found in it. At least, I would call it something like “psychedelic metal rock” or so

Neurosis – Pain Of Mind

After “exploring” sludge-metal a while ago for myself, I found this one. The debut record of the american band Neurosis (call them what you want doom, ambient, sludge, post-metal etc. etc. pp.), 1987 released on the independent label Alchemy Records and later re-released several times (Alternative Tentacles, Neurot Recordings). In differentiated to their newer records, this is more rooted in hardcore or crust-punk. But it shows in a furious way, what the direction to go is. 14 fast, angry and loud tracks, if you hear other records of that time, you will hear the big difference between Neurosis and other metal or hardcore bands. So, enjoy it.

The Mermen – Krill Slippin

Krill Slippin´is the debut record of the 1989 founded surf/psychedelic group “The Mermen”. I have a little faible for surf instrumentals, so I can highly recommend this. It´s a well played thing, with cool tunes. Listen to this, makes you feel like 1969 again, ridin an cabrio with your surfboard along highway 1. Out in the surf/psych genre there are a tons of groups, copying the classically 60´s sound, just to fail. But this faboulus musician, made something different, the quality of the guitar play, the invention of new tunes, into this old style music makes them different. So grab it, now!
