Ray LaMontagne – Trouble

Posted in Accustic, Music with tags , , , , on Juli 5, 2008 by memyselfnmaryjane

Now, it’s gettin really dark and cold. Everything sucks, nobody is happy and the sun turns black. That’s the world of Ray LaMontagne. The solo artist makes one dark album after another, not a single happy track. But he isn’t one of this sad emo guys, his songs are really dark. The lonesome guy with his guitar plays really nice tunes about the sickness of live. He has no band or background singers, it’s just Ray and his guitar. Normally I’m fast pissed of when singers try to be sad and lonesome, but he sounds like he was lonesome all his life. If you feel like several days of rain and darkness, choise this one.

  1. Trouble
  2. Shelter
  3. Hold You in My Arms
  4. Narrow Escape
  5. Burn
  6. Forever My Friend
  7. Hannah
  8. How Come
  9. Jolene
  10. All the Wild Horses

Stone Temple Pilots – No. 4

Saturday is rock day (what a lame comment 😉 ), so here’s another one. No. 4 the 1999 released record of the grunge band Stone Temple Pilots. I’m not the biggest fan of ‚em, but this one is well made. It has the nice sound of the generation-x 90s, it remains me on the early days when I was watching and recording things on MTV or VIVA II. It’s not a originally made record, they took various elements from their past recordings, to make this one. And it worked, they getted platinum for the No. 4 record. So sit down, look bored and sad and listen to…

  1. Down
  2. Heaven & Hot Rods
  3. Pruno
  4. Church On Tuesday
  5. Sour Girl
  6. No Way Out
  7. Sex & Violence
  8. Glide

I thought it would be time, for another classic. On this record you have the smash hits „Somebody To Love“ and „White Rabbit“. These two songs, which are the most known songs by the band, were brought to the band by their new singer Grace Slick and the new drummer Spencer Dryden. So what else to say to this one? I don’t know, so relax and take one of those funny lookin mushrooms.

  1. She Has Funny Cars
  2. Somebody to Love
  3. My Best Friend
  4. Today

John Krane – Doris Buzz And Friends

I found this one and saw, that the artist want his record to be shared on the net. I liked his record, so I’ve decided to share it with you. I don’t know the guy, never heard of before. It’s a nice poppy record, mostly accompanied by a piano and a electric drum. Sometimes it sounds like Adam Green, sometimes it has a very britpop influence. Just listen to it and read his liner notes to the songs. And, do you also think, that the piano on the last track is playing the score of Golden Girls?

  1. Doris Buzz
  2. I Lost My Life
  3. Cal Ripken
  4. Shadow And Clementine
  5. The Political Campaign
  6. The Story Of The Japanese Bat Bomb
  7. Q: Who Will Be The One To Save The World?
  8. A: John Mayer

Metallica – Kill Em All

Posted in Metal, Music with tags , , , , on Juli 4, 2008 by memyselfnmaryjane

You feel like you want to destroy something? You are pissed of the whole day? I’ve got the right tunes for you. Ladies and Gents, here’s Metallica. This one is the only one I will up, in my eyes the total masterpiece of the band. It came out in a time, when real metalheads hated Metallica, because of their punk attitude (listen to the Garage Inc. LP). You hear the raw and high voices of James Hetfield in young days, you will also hear the great talent of Lars Ulrichs drum play and you will hear Cliff Burton as bass player, he died some years later in a bus accident with the Metallica Tour bus.
So bang your head!

  1. Hit the Lights
  2. The Four Horsemen
  3. Motorbreath
  4. Jump in the Fire
  5. (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth
  6. Whiplash
  7. Phantom Lord
  8. No Remorse
  9. Seek & Destroy
  10. Metal Militia

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Plastic Fang

Posted in Blues, Music, Rock with tags , , , , , , on Juli 2, 2008 by memyselfnmaryjane

After some days on vacation, here’s my next post. After seein a well-done documentation about The Monks on ARTE, I searched for Jon Spencer and found this album. I’m not the biggest friend of blues rock, but this one is different. A mixture between rock, blues and funk influences. Released in 2001 to the 10th birthday of Jon Spencer’s Blues Explosion, this piece is the last one in a „classical“ blues/rock style. The following records were more experimental and influenced by their passion for hiphop music. Last tip before tracklist: If you like this one, listen also to Silver Monk Time – A Tribute To The Monks, where you can find JB and 28 other bands, covering Monk songs.

  1. Sweet ’n‘ Sour
  2. She Said
  3. Monkey Rock ’n‘ Roll
  4. Killer Wolf
  5. Tore Up And Broke
  6. Hold On
  7. Down In The Beast
  8. Shakin‘ Rock ’n‘ Roll Tonight
  9. Midnight Creep
  10. Over And Over
  11. Mother Nature
  12. Mean Heart
