I can´t say so much about F-Minus, just stumbled through it and thought it would be worth to share. Released on Hellcat Rec. it´s a nice punk/hardcore record. They didn´t invent the genre new, but who did?

Fugazi – End Hits

On the german wikipedia site, Fugazi is descriped as „art-punk“. What the hell should that mean? I don´t know and I don´t care, but it made me thought about genres. Who the hell inveted all those genres like „art-punk“, „sludge-metal“, „stoner-grudge-penis-pussy-metal“ a.s.o.? Somebody in here who knows it? I think it´s just about music journalists who need know and then new genre tags to fullfill their boring life. Ever seen the boss of the famous „Intro“ magazine? A totally dick, if you see him you can´t believe, that the „Intro“ has such a big influence on the german music scene. Moustaches should be forbidden. Only Freddy Mercury was allowed to wear one, maybe also Tom Selleck. But no „indie“ looking fashion victim should wear one, not cool. Definetly. Ah, back to Fugazi, a band without any merchandise and with Ian McKaye as singer. Enjoy.

Down By Law – Fly The Flag

Former Dag Nasty frontman Dave Smalley founded this punkrock group in the early 1990´s. After releasing 5 full-length records on punkrock major Epitaph, they decided to go back to a indie label and released „Fly The Flag“ on Go Kart records in 1999. They also released two more records on Union Label Group. There are several rumours, that they are going to record another full-length album this year. You can download one previous released song from their homepage here. Nothing else to say, solid played punkrock with sometimes a little irish touch. Enjoy

Blink 182 – Cheshire Cat

Posted in Music, Punkrock with tags , , , on Februar 14, 2009 by memyselfnmaryjane

Some bands are really shitty when they get commercial, so Blink182. This is their debut record from the year 1998, a nice and catchy melody punk record. They just signed at Cargo when they recorded Cheshire Cat. You can say there are two Blink182 phases, the pre and the post „Enema Of The State“ era. The two records before Enema Of The State are well done and nice punk records. A little bit rough, if you know their late stuff. This is not the typically white collage middle class sound, they made later on, this one fits perfect if you like Bad Religion, Descendents, early No Use For A Name or bands like that. They didn´t invent punk new, but they made a easy listening and catchy record.

Hüsker Dü – Everything Fall Apart And More

Posted in Music, Punkrock with tags , , on Januar 30, 2009 by memyselfnmaryjane

I will start today with a classic punk/hardcore record. Not one of my favourites, but still a pretty good one. „Everything Fall Apart And More“, their second full-length record.Released in a time before they signed at SST records. They brought it out on the Reflex Records label. It´s a piece of raw and unbound hardcore-punk, combined with sad and powerful rock parts. I like especially Grant Harts drum play. Sometimes you can hear the influence of the early punkbands and the new-wave music in their songs. I like it, because it sounds so different to many other records from this era, the combination of alternative rock, hardcore and some lightly parts of new wave, make this so special for me. Many well-known bands like the Pixies call Hüsker Dü as one of their influences. Another example for a band with a big influence of generations of bands in many genres, but without having big commercial success.

1. From the Gut
2. Blah, Blah, Blah
3. Punch Drunk
4. Bricklayer
